Sex worker support initiative

Kindness Matters collaborates with sex work facilities to provide direct, meaningful support to women working in the industry. Rather than imposing predetermined outcomes or attempting to “rescue” individuals from their work, we centre our approach on listening first. The women themselves inform us of the support they need, and together we plan from there.

This approach recognises women as the experts on their own lives and needs. Our role is not to direct their choices, but to support their growth by helping them identify barriers (where relevant) between where they are and where they would like to be, and to assist them in navigating those barriers with dignity and care.
More importantly, we recognise that sex workers are a vulnerable and highly stigmatised community, often treated harshly by society. We actively challenge this stigma by creating a compassionate, non-judgemental space where women can see their own strength and resilience reflected back to them. We do not undermine or exaggerate their goals – whether they aim to leave the industry or pursue a meaningful and stable life within it.

The nature of this work necessitates a trauma-infarmed and sex-work-infarmed approach, grounded in compassionate interpersonal support. At the same time, we are committed to assisting women with access to practical resources across other areas of life. This has included , and continues to include, support with healthcare needs such as physiotherapy or specialist medical services, access to social services and family planning, as well as skills development and job-seeking assistance for those who wish to pursue alternative careers.

This area of our organisation is often the most affected by funding limitations. Providing women with quality, ethical, and experienced care requires financial investment. As a vulnerable community, their needs must be met by high-quality services that are skilled in delivering stigma-free, ethical support. Cost-cutting in this space risks ethical violations and situations where “help” becomes part of the harm these women already experience within a society that struggles to accept the nature of their work.

If you are able to assist, what we need most are funds to provide the level of care these women deserve, or services that support their empowerment and the well-being of their loved ones. Any assistance is deeply appreciated and will be used responsibly and purposefully.
