Research, as well as the wisdom of the ancients, shows us that there is a powerful mind/body connection that impacts personal wellness. The founders of Kindness Matters all take some joy in the exploration of this connection through different means. From physically finding it in skateboarding or rock climbing, to mentally and spiritually exploring it through meditation, prayer, and art. Mindfulness has influenced us as people and as an organisational in intricate, introspective, and incredible ways.

There is however a clear standout among us in the art of mindfulness though, Ally is our undisputed master the mind/body connection. Through Yoga, whose meaning is union, Ally brings us together like a yoke brings the cart to the ox. Creating a sense of continuity and unity that we hope to impart to everyone we work with. Having begun their personal practice at age 15 – Ally now works not only to help people bend and flex their way into wellbeing, but also guides other instructors through the process of safely and lovingly imparting the philosophy and exercise of yoga to students of the art.

Yoga is the practice of mindfulness that guides our being into the body and the moment through attentive exploration of breath and body position. Focus and movement weave into a sense of grounding that allows a relationship with self to flourish – while gifting the body with the many benefits of exercise. This creates a sense of balance and calm in the mind that can pierce the tensions and hurts of life, allowing for the lighter side of self to shine through.

Ally’s talent for fun, even in moments of vulnerability, creates something unique in the approach to Yoga that we bring at Kindness Matters. We hope that students will find lessons on the mat that will benefit them across life. Riding a flow in class that travels between the seriousness and the silly, and always remembers to be caring and kind.

Yoga is about union, and at Kindness Matters it’s also about play, compassion, and support. We’d love it if you joined our classes, joining in a moment to check in with yourself, but not be too serious about it.
